San Francisco!? (A long life update)

If you read my previous post you might be wondering why I have purchased a ticket to a concert in San Francisco when I live in Portland. That is a long ways away! (Well, you might not be wondering that. Road trips do happen...) Anyway, I am now living in Los Angeles California. Which is only about 4 hours away from San Francisco!

I have been here for a week and a half now. And am kind of depending on Omer and his graduate school life for what I call 'home'. But just because Omer is here for me doesn't mean I want to overstay my welcome. So my goal is to avoid him as much as possible unless we are actively hanging out together.

My Schedule for a typical day is as follows: I wake up at 5ish (usually closer to 6) in the morning and head down to a coffee shop called "The Coffee Bean." Where I hang out not using their not free wireless (the bastards). I don't bother purchasing anything at all. And I don't feel bad about it. They are a huge chain and don't give away free wireless. Then around 7:30 I head to the library where I am able to use the wireless there. I stay at the library until Omer is done with class (6ish) and then we head back to his place where we work on a new website we are making. At 7pm everyday we start working on the Tanga.com daily puzzles (which are amazing and hard). That takes us anywhere from 30-90 minutes but we think we are going to start quitting after 30-40 because they are taking up too much of Omer's valuable daylight hours (he stays up very late though, as usual). After the puzzles we try and tie up the loose ends in our programming for the night. At 9ish, I brush my teeth (everyday! I kid you not!) and then watch an episode of The OC (so addicting!) with Keri (via telephone) and then I got to sleep.

All in all I am loving it. I love the fact that I (for once) have a sleep schedule I am sticking to. It has all the things I want in a sleep schedule. More natural hours (meaning go to sleep and wake up with the sun) and it is about 7 hours of sleep. I love the fact that I don't really have a home. I like going to the coffee shop and then the library. I like the feeling of packing up everything I need for the day into my bag. Laptop? check! Food? Check! (Mostly fruit (bananas, cuties, and apples) and nuts (pecans, almonds and walnuts) and the occasional peanut butter sandwich) And that's about it. It very much so reminds me of the PCT, in that I pack up what I need and move from place to place (Omer's, The Coffee Bean, the Library). I like the fact that I bike every where I go.

I have applied for some jobs at 4 different companies. (Listed in order of preferance)

  1. Apple retail stores
  2. BlockBuster
  3. 24 Hour Fitness
  4. Performance Bicycle shop (because Peter worked there!)

But no one has gotten back to me. But this is okay for now. I am really getting into this website that Omer and I are working on. If our pre-alpha proof of concept works then I think we might try and get some funding for it. But we haven't really discussed that, so we'll have to see.

As far as LA itself goes, it is an okay city. I like the sun. I like the feeling I get when I am driving around in it. I feel like a character from the OC. I'm not really sure why. I'm not rich and I don't have a lot of drama in my life. But I envision myself as a celebrity or Seth (from the OC). Or just somebody with lots of dreams who believes in the California promise.

I haven't seen a celebrity, yet. But I have driven by the MGM and also the Universal studios. Omer's roommate was out at dinner and saw Brittney Spears. Brittney Spears! One of these days (when I have some cash) I am going to by the $2 star map that some people are selling one one of the corners of campus.

Looking back on this post, I can see that I am feeling very parenthetical today. And there were plenty of exclamation points.

I am going to be at the Long Beach grand prix in April. You should come by and hang out if you are still in the area. I don't get my own rental car, so maybe you can drive me to an in n out too!
